US envoy Tom Barrack warned that a US strike against Iran could occur over the weekend.
In response to a question during a podcast about the possibility of an attack this week against Iran, the US President’s special envoy to Syria and Iraq responded, “Absolutely.”
He also added that Trump was very clear in his position, and repeatedly paved the way for reaching an agreement, but Tehran took the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip.
He also pointed out that the US administration is no longer interested in the issue of “regime change” and was open to dialogue at several points.
These statements came amid escalating preparations in Israel and Iran, as well as America, in anticipation of a new round of strikes.
Yesterday evening, US President Donald Trump reiterated that the war against Iran will end soon, one way or another. He said during an election rally in Iowa: “I do not care much in what way the war ends, but it is certain that it will end very soon.”
While Tehran threatened to expand its responses if it was subjected to a new attack, to affect various targets. It also hinted at targeting Internet cables at sea.
Since the beginning of the war, Iran has restricted navigation in this strait, which is vital for global energy supplies, while Washington imposed a stifling blockade on Iranian ports.
Meanwhile, navigation in the Strait and its control have become one of the main points of tension between Tehran and Washington, as the former insists on being the supervisor of transit movement along a route it determines, while the latter and several other parties reject this matter.
