Trump decides it: We will not launch an attack on Iran before the elections

While there were reports that the US military was preparing for the possibility of resuming strikes on Iran, US President Donald Trump resolved the position by emphasizing that he would not “launch any attack” before the midterm congressional elections scheduled for the beginning of next month.

On Thursday, Trump said that his administration was holding “fruitful talks” with Iran, while Tehran, for its part, confirmed the continuation of negotiations on its plan, which it called the “seven days,” and that it would respond to Washington’s observations “within days.”

In addition, Trump added through his account on the “Truth Social” platform today: “I would like to make clear to everyone that although Iran is suffering from a very bad situation, economically and militarily, and that the blockade will remain in effect and effective, with oil flowing in record quantities through the Strait of Hormuz (22 million barrels last night alone, without a single barrel coming from or going to Iran!), we will not launch any attack on Iran before the midterm elections,” he said.

The US President also reiterated that "Iran will not possess a nuclear weapon."

The US President's latest statement came at a time when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed the continuation of the negotiating track between Tehran and Washington, saying that his country is currently studying US comments on the "seven-day plan."

Meanwhile, American officials reported to Axios that the US Department of Defense had issued directives to the US Central Command (Centcom) to complete preparations for the resumption of large-scale combat operations against Iran, without specifying a date for the start of any strikes, while Trump had not taken a final decision regarding the resumption of military operations.

Iran had presented a seven-day road map to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, followed by a move to broader negotiations with Washington.

However, Trump later announced his rejection of this proposal in its announced form, which required amendments to it from the American side and sending it again to Tehran.

Note that the "seven days" proposal is mainly related to the Strait of Hormuz, which represents a major axis in the efforts aimed at stopping hostilities and resuming negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

While the importance of the strait comes in light of the sharp decline in navigation traffic through it; Kpler data showed that only seven cargo ships crossed the strait on Tuesday, the lowest level since July 23.

Note that before the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28, about 125 large commercial ships, including oil and gas tankers, bulk cargo ships, and containers, were crossing the strait daily, and the shipments passing through it represented about a fifth of the global supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas.
