Washington - Ofoq News - US President Donald Trump officially announced yesterday evening (Friday) the appointment of Katie Zakaria as White House press secretary.
Zakaria is known for her essays in which she described the president as "the incomparable giant of American politics" and concluded with the words "Your biggest fan in California." She also compared him to Bay Ruth, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Napoleon, and Julius Caesar.
In officially announcing his nomination, Trump praised Zakaria's track record of support. He described her as a “loyal and intelligent” supporter, and highlighted her affiliation with the “Make America Great Again” movement. Before making the decision, the president consulted with those close to him, including his former spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt. If Zakaria had not won the job, Trump would have nominated conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings, his former lawyer Alaina El Habba, or deputy speaker and former beauty queen Anna Kelly.
The new speaker is also a 41-year-old mother of four who resides in Westlake Village, California. She is a lawyer who holds a bachelor's degree and a law degree from Pepperdine University (a prestigious private university located in the Malibu hills, and follows the Christian Protestant denomination), and has been working since last June as a senior communications advisor for the Trump Media Group and the social media network Truth Social.
Outside of Trump's circle, Zakaria is not a household name in the United States either, but Fox News and Newsmax viewers have seen her repeatedly over the past year, usually when she defended the president and attacked the Democratic Party, immigrants and other media. Zakaria describes herself as a "Fox News commentator," but the American network clarified that it never hired her, but rather allowed her to appear as a guest.
It seems that Trump chose it as he chose his media partners in the past: on screen. Last summer, he sent her congratulatory messages after watching her on TV, and in recent weeks she visited the White House twice and even met him in person. A source familiar with the details of the decision described her as looking like she had come "straight out of a casting agency."
Additionally, Zakaria has long taken a position closely aligned with Trump. Although she does not have a long track record on Israeli affairs, the few times she has touched on the subject, she has defended Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against the threat of arrest, expressed hostility toward Iran, and praised the US president's diplomacy and dealings in the Middle East. She is not an expert on the region, but so far, her few comments have been in favor of senior officials in Jerusalem. In July, she attacked New York Mayor Zoharan Mohammadani, saying he "believes he is running a sovereign country."
