International fears are mounting about a new round of war amid reports of American-Israeli preparations for intensified strikes against Tehran. US President Donald Trump reiterated that the war against Iran will end soon, one way or another.
Trump said during an election rally yesterday evening, Thursday, in Iowa: “I don’t care much how the war ends, but it is certain that it will end very soon.”
He also added that "he now has no one to negotiate with in Tehran after targeting the Iranian leadership levels."
As for the rise in oil prices, which has become a very influential factor in the midterm congressional elections, Trump explained that the quantities of oil that crossed the Strait of Hormuz last week exceeded what had been crossed in any previous period, including before the war. He stressed that oil prices will fall further once the war in Iran ends
In addition, he justifiably indicated that his administration had to take action to prevent Tehran from possessing a nuclear weapon.
Yesterday, the US President accused Tehran of deliberately raising oil prices ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November 3, after the Revolutionary Guard had previously threatened to expand the scope of the regional war that broke out in late February.
He also accused it of "claiming false attacks" in the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world's energy supplies passed before the war, stressing that "larger quantities of oil are currently passing through compared to what they were before" the outbreak of the war.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard threatened to target American bases in the Middle East if the American army continued to accompany ships through Hormuz. He said in a statement published on his Sepah News website, “The American army must know that if it continues in its course, the conflict will spread to its bases in the region,” adding, “This is a serious warning.”
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of the war, Iran has restricted navigation in this strait, which is vital for global energy supplies, while Washington imposed a stifling blockade on Iranian ports.
While navigation in the Strait and its control have become one of the main points of tension between Tehran and Washington, as the former insists on being the supervisor of transit movement along a route it determines, while the latter and several other parties reject this matter.
