Two Egyptians were killed and another was injured in a shooting that targeted them in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced that it is following with great interest the unfortunate incident that took place in the city of Khartoum, following gunfire by an armed man targeting Egyptian truck drivers, which led to the death of two drivers and the injury of another.

She said that immediately after the incident occurred, Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati issued urgent instructions to the Egyptian ambassador to Sudan to quickly communicate with the Sudanese authorities to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, to check on the health condition of the injured citizen, and to intensify coordination to take all necessary measures to transport the bodies of the two victims to the homeland as quickly as possible.

Ambassador Nader Zaki, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, explained that the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Yasser Sorour, made immediate and intensive contacts with the relevant Sudanese authorities, who reported their success in arresting the perpetrator of the crime immediately after the incident occurred.

In the same context, the Governor of Khartoum made an official visit to offer condolences to the victims and check on the health condition of the injured citizen. The medical staff reported that the injured person urgently needs urgent surgery, while his condition is being monitored moment by moment in coordination with the Egyptian Embassy.

This incident comes in light of the exceptional security conditions taking place in some areas and main roads in Sudan, where the movement of Egyptian trucks and drivers transporting goods continues to secure supplies, aid and basic goods between the two countries through land ports, despite the risks and tense field conditions.

Egypt, through its diplomatic and consular missions in coordination with the relevant Sudanese authorities, is keen to continuously monitor the conditions of the Egyptian community and workers in the land transport sector with the aim of providing them with the necessary protection, and to intervene quickly to provide medical and logistical support and evacuate emergency cases when any accidents or attacks occur.
