The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that more than 250,000 Yemeni citizens have been displaced from their homes as a result of the ongoing combat operations since the beginning of last August, indicating that the number of displaced people has increased by 82,000 people during the current month of October alone.
The UN office said in a statement: “Since the beginning of August, more than a quarter of a million people have been forced to leave their homes due to the conflict, and this month alone, more than 82,000 people have joined the lists of displaced people, the majority of whom belong to Taiz Governorate.”
The OCHA office indicated that the conditions in the city of Taiz are "deteriorating rapidly," drawing attention to the fact that humanitarian organizations last week "distributed the last of their food reserves, forcing families to rely entirely on local markets, where prices rose by no less than 50%."
Water supplies have also been cut by half, domestic gas stocks have become severely scarce, while hospitals have reported severe shortages of medicines, medical supplies, oxygen, and fuel.
Since August, the United Nations and international partners have provided emergency humanitarian assistance to more than 163,000 displaced people, with more than 92,000 people receiving cash financial assistance, more than 88,000 receiving food supplies, and medical care provided to more than 38.5,000 people. However, OCHA concluded that “the scale of needs on the ground remains far greater than what is provided by support and assistance mechanisms.”
