The American Task Force for Lebanon confirmed that Israel has not fulfilled its obligations to withdraw from southern Lebanon, stressing that Washington seeks to establish a new verification mechanism to monitor the implementation of the framework agreement, with the need to avoid any security vacuum after the end of the mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The American task force said, in exclusive statements to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels, that Israel has not adhered to its pledges regarding withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

He explained that the United States prefers to establish a new verification mechanism instead of UNIFIL, to follow up on the implementation of the framework agreement.

In a remarkable development, the American task force expressed its hope to extend UNIFIL’s mission temporarily, until the new verification mechanism is formed.

He stressed that the existence of a vacuum after the end of the UN force’s mission “cannot be an option,” noting the need to ensure the continued existence of a mechanism to monitor the situation on the ground.

The team added that it hopes to form a clear monitoring mechanism within the framework of the framework agreement, allowing the implementation of the obligations associated with it to be followed up.

These statements reflect an American trend towards replacing the current monitoring mechanism with new arrangements, while maintaining the UNIFIL mission temporarily until the alternative mechanism is ready.

In the same context, the American Task Force for Lebanon stressed that Washington is committed to facilitating the implementation of the framework agreement, most importantly the establishment of a verification mechanism.

These positions come in light of the team’s assertion that Israel has not fulfilled its obligations related to withdrawal from southern Lebanon, which places the issue of verifying the implementation of the agreement at the forefront of the issues at hand.

Between calling for a temporary extension of UNIFIL's mission and working to form a new verification mechanism, the American statements stress the importance of continuing to monitor the implementation of the framework agreement, without leaving a vacuum after the end of the UN force's mission.
