- New York City Council Member Zahran Mamdani said in an interview with Jake Tapper on Ofoq News on Wednesday that the “victories” achieved by Democratic candidates show that their election platforms “address the crises that working-class Americans face in their daily lives.” He added: "I think what we saw last night reflects the fact that working-class Americans are tired of hearing politicians - bought off by the wealthiest groups in the country - tell them that their needs are unrealistic."
He continued that these victories give a mandate "to work to reduce costs, achieve tangible change that working-class Americans feel in their pockets, and fulfill the trust that these citizens have placed in the Democratic Party." Referring to the “cordial” relationship he has with President Donald Trump, Tabar asked him whether Hakeem Jeffries, a potential candidate for Speaker of the House of Representatives, should seek to build a good relationship with Trump or take a harsher approach.
Although Mamdani affirmed his confidence in Jeffries' ability to find the "most effective" method of communication, he explained that his personal relationship with Trump is based on "complete openness and frank honesty regarding the existence of fundamental and major policy differences between us." He continued, "We have focused in our meetings and dialogues on finding common points of convergence.
I believe this reflects, in many respects, the essence of our responsibility as politicians; It is to work with everyone, as long as the ultimate goal is to achieve the interests of the people we represent.”
