The Yemeni government forces announced full control over the Kahboub mountainous front overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait, in the latest field progress within the “Yemen Dawn” operation, which aims to restore areas under the control of the Houthi group.
The “Homeland Shield” forces said, in a statement published through their official account on the “X” platform, that their forces, in cooperation with the Giants Brigades and the Joint Forces, took full control of the front, without revealing details of the losses or the size of the participating forces.
Kahboub is administratively located within the Lahj Governorate in southern Yemen, and includes a series of strategic mountain highlands overlooking the Bab al-Mandab region, which gives it military importance in monitoring movements on the axes leading to the strait and the western coast.
The new progress comes days after government forces announced the recovery of sites in the Bab al-Mandab region and the Dhubab district, as part of the attack that began Monday with air support from the Saudi-led coalition.
The Yemeni military spokesman had announced that the Giants and Homeland Shield forces had taken control of the Bab al-Mandab area and Dhubab Airport, and cut off the road linking Dhubab and Mokha.
These areas gain special importance due to their proximity to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and is considered one of the most prominent sea lanes for global trade and energy shipments.
The battles come after the Houthis made progress last September in areas of the Hodeidah and Taiz governorates, including the city of Mocha and sites near Mayon Island overlooking the strait.
In a parallel development, Deputy Chief of the Yemeni General Staff, Major General Ahmed Al-Basr, chaired a meeting of the committee charged with implementing the directives of the Chairman of the Presidential Command Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, regarding general mobilization.
Al-Basr stressed the speedy completion of equipping brigades and military units for immediate action, raising combat readiness and providing human, training and logistical needs. Al-Alimi had announced the launch of Operation “Yemen Dawn” with the aim of restoring state institutions and areas controlled by the Houthis, including the capital, Sana’a.
In the latest toll announced by government forces on Thursday, they said they had carried out 2,103 precise targeting operations against Houthi positions on several fronts, noting that 1,860 members of the group had been neutralized since the start of the attack.
