A gunman kills 4 members of one family and commits suicide in the US state of Georgia

Four individuals and the shooter were killed following what was likely a murder-suicide in a home in rural Georgia late Friday night.

Officials said the victims were adult family members of the shooter, who died by suicide.

They were found at the family home on the outskirts of Douglas, a small city located about 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

“Investigators believe this was an apparent murder-suicide that involved immediate family members who resided at the home,” Douglas Police Chief Brannen Pruitt said during a news conference on Saturday.

Officers responded to an emergency call made by a victim shortly after 11 p.m., and found a woman alive at the scene. After being transported to a nearby hospital, she was pronounced dead, bringing the death toll to five along with the shooter.

Douglas police did not respond to emails and calls requesting more information.
