The US Federal Aviation Administration said, on Sunday, that authorities are investigating the crash of a plane with 9 people on board, before it crashed in a residential area in Palm Beach, Florida. No details have yet been announced about the condition of the passengers on board.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that it would investigate the accident in cooperation with the National Transportation Safety Board. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Learjet 60 plane was en route to the Bahamas, arriving from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
Data from the ADS-B Exchange website, which specializes in tracking flights, shows that the plane lost 27,000 feet of altitude in just one minute, before the tracking data was cut off. The crash site is located about 4 miles south of the airport in West Palm Beach, which was renamed after US President Donald Trump earlier this year.
President Trump was in West Palm Beach earlier Sunday, but left the airport on Air Force One a little more than an hour before the accident. It is noteworthy that the area was experiencing scattered storms at the time of the accident, and the plane passed through a more severe storm cell minutes before it began to lose altitude. It remains unclear whether the storm contributed to the accident.
Officials announced the closure of all northbound and southbound lanes on the Military Trail until further notice, and advised drivers to avoid the area and take alternative routes.
