A record number in Israel: 110,000 evaders from military service

Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - The number of people classified as evading military service in the Israeli army has risen to about 110,000 people, compared to about 75,000 at the beginning of 2026, according to what the Israeli Kan channel reported on Sunday evening.

This increase comes after the entry into force of tens of thousands of conscription orders, amid expectations that the number will increase during the coming period.

According to Israeli army estimates, the Haredim constitute about 80% of those currently classified as evading military service.

Despite the unprecedented number, and the Supreme Court’s decision that stressed the need to enforce the law against evaders, enforcement measures remain largely frozen, except in limited cases.

In addition to those arrested at Ben Gurion Airport, the authorities arrested during random raids 14 Haredi Jewish service evaders, and 13 others who were not Haredi.

A massive enforcement campaign was scheduled to be carried out this month, but it was canceled due to a dispute between the police and the army regarding the distribution of responsibilities. The police requested the allocation of 300 soldiers to assist in carrying out the arrests, but the army rejected the request, considering that this mission did not fall within its jurisdiction.
