Washington - Ofoq News - In 2026, the US Army purchased long-range PrSM missiles worth about $550 million against the backdrop of the depletion of its stocks as a result of the war with Iran, without the usual announcement from the Pentagon of a large contract.
According to documents seen by Novosti, the US Army requested in March a batch of PrSM missiles of the basic version, and after subsequent amendments to the contract, the volume of this funding amounted to about $539 million, and about $9.8 million was added in 2026 to previous contracts for similar batches of the same missiles.
Neither the new delivery demand nor the subsequent increase in expenditures appeared as a separate announcement in the Pentagon's daily summary of large contracts.
The production period of PrSM missiles takes about three years, so deliveries of missiles from the new production batch are supposed to begin only at the end of 2028.
For fiscal year 2027, the Army requested about $1.92 billion to purchase an additional 1,134 PrSM missiles. The United States intends to purchase a total of 3,986 missiles of the basic version.
In August, media reported from sources in the defense sector that during 5 months of combat operations against Iran, the United States had practically exhausted its stocks of long-range PrSM and ATACMS missiles, without revealing the exact number of missiles consumed.
In September, the Pentagon announced the conclusion of a contract with Lockheed Martin worth $1.2 billion for second-generation PrSM missiles capable of hitting moving naval targets.
