Agree in the opposite direction

Writer: Moatasem Hamada

The principle of national consensus in Palestinian relations is a fixed principle, insisted on by parties keen to reduce the state of division, dispersion, and fragmentation, and to move closer, with slow steps, towards national unity in unifying institutions such as the National Council and the Legislative Council, in a way that enhances the field steadfastness of the popular movements, and their transformation into resistance, stepping on the path of confrontation, confrontation, and steadfastness, leading to the achievement of national goals.

If we return to the stations of the national dialogues, we notice that they all agreed to agree on unity of ranks, through national frameworks, both existing and new, such as the temporary leadership framework that was decided to be formed by the “Beijing Dialogue,” or the National Command of Resistance, and a committee of wise men to present a national project and a national strategy for the Palestinian situation, similar to what was decided on September 3, 2020, in the national conference that was held between Ramallah and Beirut, headed by President Abu Mazen.

The dissonant step in this consensual path, this time represented an agreement on a step backwards, which contradicts the general tendency to hold general elections for the National and Legislative Councils and the Presidency, which would end the state of institutional vacuum, rebuild the Palestinian political system, and bring about the required shift in the path of the Palestinian struggle.

This general tendency, with which the Nashaz step came in conflict, was expressed for more than ten years (or even more) in many slogans, across the broad spectrum of the national situation, by those who were in it within what remained of AD. T. F. From institutions, and from those outside them, everyone longs for a transition to a healthy national institutional state that puts an end to the state of political chaos and reunites the West Bank with the Gaza Strip.

If we review what was stated in the statement of the Executive Committee (whose members did not agree to postpone, but there were oppositions), we notice that the reasons that were said to be a reason for postponement, that is, the lack of political and security conditions to organize the elections, are the same excuse that was said in the year 2021, when it surprised everyone with the decision to postpone, due to Israel’s refusal to hold it in Jerusalem, and Jerusalem was an excuse that was traded in the opposite direction.

If we review the scheduled date for the next elections, we notice that it comes after a year, in the absence of political guarantees, that the existing conditions that were given as an excuse for postponement will change, and that appropriate conditions will be available at that time.

We also note that the bet on providing the conditions was to call on the international community to assume its responsibilities and support the Palestinian people in exercising their right to vote, at a time when everyone knows that the international community is living in a state of chaos and wars, from Ukraine to North Africa, to the Levant, to the banks of the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, the Strait of Hormuz, the two banks of the Gulf, the Afghan-Pakistani war, the island of Taiwan, all the way to Venezuela, Cuba and other parts of Latin America, an international community that does not rule. There are no laws or equations in his relations, only the equations of military, economic, and political competition.

In this situation, there remains no reason for postponement except the narrow reasons, in which those who participated in agreeing on it saw that this entitlement does not guarantee that one will achieve through it what he aspires to achieve, and thus narrow and factional interests and narrow partisan ambitions take precedence over higher national interests, and let the Legislative Council go to hell, and we have been living without this council, since it was suspended in the year 2007, and was dissolved in the year 2018, with elections being held to choose a new one. The situation remains the same.

The same can be said about the National Council.

It is national consensus in the opposite direction
