The Yemeni Ansar Allah group (Houthis) said on Saturday that it had carried out attacks against “sensitive targets” in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in addition to targeting the Aramco company in the coastal city of Yanbu on the Red Sea, west of the kingdom. The Iranian-backed group's military spokesman, Yahya Saree, posted a statement on social media, saying that the attacks were in response to "Saudi aggression."
The statement stated that 732 Saudi air strikes targeted areas controlled by the Houthis. The Houthis also indicated in their statement that the operations targeting Riyadh and Aramco in Yanbu were carried out "with a large number of ballistic and winged missiles and drones."
Last week, Saudi Arabia announced that the Houthis attempted to target the city of Mecca with a drone, which caused an angry reaction from Arab and Islamic countries due to the attempt to target the most sacred city in Islam. The spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, said at the time: “The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces were able to intercept and destroy an enemy drone launched by the terrorist Houthi militia before it entered the restricted airspace of the holy capital of Mecca, and the hostile drone was intercepted in the south of the city of Mecca.”
