Saudi Aramco has contracted with the American company KBR to carry out engineering and development work at the Marjan oil and gas field, located off the eastern coast of the Kingdom in the Arabian Gulf.
Aramco chose KBR to provide engineering and project execution services, supporting the modernization of facilities in the offshore Marjan project, including key facilities for oil and gas processing, gas compression, and power systems within the field, according to the "offshore-energy" website.
The American company stated that the project aims to maintain the production capacity of the Marjan field in light of recent developments in the field, in addition to enhancing the capabilities for processing associated gas and supporting the long-term performance of vital offshore assets by integrating digital technologies, automation systems, and energy systems development.
Jay Ibrahim, President of Sustainable Technology Solutions at KBR, said: "This contract reflects our long-standing relationship with Aramco in executing projects. By combining our deep expertise in marine engineering with advanced automation integration and digital technologies, we aim to contribute to meeting Aramco's expectations."
The engineering works are expected to be primarily executed from KBR's offices in Houston and Khobar, benefiting from the company's decades-long experience in implementing complex infrastructure projects for the offshore energy sector in the Middle East and around the world.
The Marjan oil and gas field, operated by Aramco, has seen multi-billion dollar expansions aimed at maintaining crude oil production capacity at around 800,000 barrels per day, alongside a significant increase in associated gas processing capabilities.
The new contract comes as part of Aramco's ongoing efforts to develop and modernize the field's infrastructure, enhancing the efficiency of its offshore assets and their ability to support production and gas processing in the long term.
