Atomic Energy is awaiting an agreement with Iran to resume nuclear inspections

The International Atomic Energy Agency announced on Friday that it has completed its technical preparations to verify Iranian nuclear activities, in the event of a diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran, stressing that any sustainable settlement of the nuclear file requires international supervision.

The Director-General of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, said during a speech before the United Nations General Assembly in New York, that the agency is ready to carry out independent monitoring and verification operations if Washington and Tehran succeed in reaching a new agreement.

According to a report published by Fox News, Grossi explained that the agency has completed a large part of the technical preparations necessary to verify Iran's nuclear activities, allowing international inspectors to play a pivotal role in any potential agreement.

He stressed that reaching a permanent solution to the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program requires international oversight, considering that independent verification represents an essential element in any diplomatic understanding.

Grossi expressed his optimism about the diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Qatar, the Sultanate of Oman, and Egypt, to support negotiations between the United States and Iran.

His statements come at a time when efforts are continuing to find a diplomatic solution to the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program, amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.

Despite the agency's announcement of its technical readiness, a new agreement has not yet been announced allowing inspections to resume within the framework of possible understandings.

This means that the agency's readiness to verify does not represent an announcement of the resumption of inspections, but rather a technical step that allows them to be implemented if the necessary diplomatic arrangements are in place.

Grossi's statements coincided with US President Donald Trump hinting at the possibility of launching additional military strikes against Iran if it does not reach an agreement with the United States.

Trump said, during a rally in Florida on Friday, that Washington may carry out another military operation against Iran, or that Tehran may agree to reach an agreement.

This hint comes in light of continued American pressure on Iran, in parallel with diplomatic efforts to find a settlement to the nuclear file.

In this context, the International Atomic Energy Agency emerges as the technical body responsible for verifying nuclear obligations, once an agreement is reached that specifies oversight and inspection mechanisms.

The resumption of verification operations remains dependent on reaching an understanding between the parties concerned, at a time when the agency confirms its readiness to perform its technical role if the agreement is completed.
