Between 67 and Victory 73.. We Knew Contemporary Egypt

Today is one of the most significant days in the history of contemporary Egypt; for 53 years, there has been no day greater than this in our history, as it tells the entire story of modern Egypt. Our brave army crossed the Suez Canal in October 73 and reclaimed it, and we achieved a military victory with unmatched merit and superiority that no one can deny in the face of the major military powers in our current world; for Israel was not alone, but we learned during the war, the defeat, and between them and afterwards that Israel was supported by America and the West in our region. The victory of 73 will remain immortal for the Egyptian military and for the political and military decision-maker, the late President Anwar Sadat, who did not settle for the war and its impressive military victories and remarkable crossing, but completed the path with another added value and a courageous political decision that will live forever; which is the Camp David Agreement, which came after his historic speech in the Israeli Knesset and his visit to Jerusalem. Sadat, the hero of war, transformed into a hero of peace with an epic before the world, opening for Egypt and the Arab and Islamic region a way to coexist with wisdom and strength, and he reclaimed all the land for its rightful owners, fortified Egypt's borders, and secured for the Palestinians a document that guarantees their historical rights, and even called on all brothers to join him, but they boycotted him. Just imagine today if we had handed over the reins of our decision to others, how our fate would have been in a region where parts of it are still under occupation and conflict. The story of Egypt and contemporary Egyptians must be written through this great victory; a historical transformation occurred in which Egypt announced to the world that it would not accept a return to the pre-independence stage, and we do not forget our modern and ancient history in which we moved between empires; from the Greeks and Romans to the Persian and Ottoman, then the British and French occupations. The victory of 1973 made Egyptians regain the glory of their ancient history as the origin of civilization. We did not learn only from victory, but the greatest lesson came after the setback of June 5, 1967; as Egypt surpassed both rulers and the ruled, and a historical transformation occurred that proved that living nations do not learn only from their victories, but that their defeats and failures are the key to change and progress; and perhaps mistakes and setbacks are the cracks through which light enters.
