The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority reported today, Wednesday, that an oil tanker was hit by several projectiles in an incident 51 nautical miles north of the northern Qatari city. The authority added that reports of injuries have been received.
The authority stated that the authorities are investigating the incident. The nationality of the tanker has not been specified.
Data from specialized analytical companies showed that the number of liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz rose in September to the highest monthly level since the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, despite ongoing security concerns and uncertainty.
Standard & Poor's Global Energy stated that a total of 19 liquefied natural gas shipments crossed the vital waterway in September, including 13 shipments from Qatar and six shipments from the UAE. Meanwhile, data from Kpler showed that a total of 21 liquefied natural gas shipments exited through the Strait of Hormuz in September.
Eric Yep, a senior analyst at Standard & Poor's, stated that this compares to 15 shipments in June, when an agreement between the United States and Iran began to take effect.
He explained: "The movement of liquefied natural gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz accelerated in the second half of September, and if this trend continues throughout October, we may see a recovery in total monthly transit to 25% of pre-war levels."
