The Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Foreign Minister Wang Yi informed Israeli President Isaac Herzog of the need to stop and reverse the "forced construction" of settlements in the West Bank.
The ministry added, in a statement, that Wang assured Herzog during a meeting in Azerbaijan that China considers the Palestinian issue “the greatest historical injustice” in this century.
Wang said that promoting peace and reconciliation in the region represents the "cornerstone" of China's Middle East policy.
He added that Beijing believes that the "two-state solution" is the correct path to reaching a settlement to the conflict, stressing that the immediate priority is to provide full access to the Gaza Strip to prevent the worsening of a humanitarian "disaster."
Wang also called on Israel to stop and roll back the establishment of settlements in the West Bank.
He stressed that China is ready to work with the international community to urge all parties to return to dialogue and consultation as soon as possible, and seek a political settlement of the conflict.
