The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced, on Friday, the termination of the service of a police officer, on the grounds that he violated the requirements of his job duty while inside a metro car, in an incident sparked by a video clip circulating on social media. The Ministry explained, in a statement, that the decision to terminate service came due to the police officer’s departure from the requirements of his job duty, in violation of the principles and rules in force within the Ministry.
A video clip had spread on social media, showing a police officer inside a metro car, amid circulating accusations that he collected sums of money from street vendors in exchange for allowing them to practice selling inside the cars. The Ministry did not provide additional details regarding the nature of the violation committed by the police officer, nor did it clarify whether the circulating accusations regarding collecting sums of money from street vendors in exchange for allowing them to sell inside metro cars had been proven.
The clip sparked widespread interaction among social media users, who demanded that the incident be examined and the necessary measures be taken, before the Ministry of Interior announced the decision to terminate the police officer’s service.
