Eizenkot reveals: They left a threatening letter against me on my son’s grave

Tel Aviv - Ofoq News - The head of the Israeli Yesh Atid party, Gadi Eisenkot, revealed that a threatening letter was recently placed on the grave of his son Gal, who was killed in the Gaza Strip in December 2023, indicating that the threat was directed to him personally.

Eisenkot said, in an interview with the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper supplement, that he hesitated about how to deal with the message, before deciding not to take any action, adding that at this stage of his life “it is very difficult to scare him.”

During the interview, Eisenkot touched on statements he made more than two decades ago, when he was a brigadier general and commander of the Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2004. He said at the time that “terrorism will continue for many years,” and that there is no “absolute victory” in this conflict.

In the same statements, Eizenkot expected that his son, who was five years old at the time, would be forced to fight in the Palestinian territories. Gal Eisenkot was later killed during fighting in the Gaza Strip in December 2023.

In another aspect of the interview, Eisenkot accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of presenting false accounts to the investigating authorities regarding the events of October 7, expressing his belief that there are suspicions related to forging documents and reports.

Eisenkot said that, by virtue of his membership in the Security Ministerial Council and the Intelligence Subcommittee, he knew the nature of the materials that were present, and therefore, he said, he had “a very deep suspicion” that some of the documents might have been forged.

One of the documents referred to by Eisenkot relates to proposed methods of action against the leadership of the Hamas movement. According to the report, the document was prepared by Netanyahu’s military secretary following a session to assess the security situation held by the Prime Minister on October 1, 2023.

The document, according to what was reported by Yedioth Ahronoth, indicates a recommendation to enhance operational readiness to carry out operations against Hamas leaders, including the movement’s leaders in Gaza, a few days before the October 7 attack.
