The results of a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 24 countries during the spring of this year showed that international attitudes towards Israel and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, tend to be negative, significantly more than positive. In Israel, the majority of citizens believe that their country does not receive sufficient respect on the international scene, as 58% of Israelis believe that Israel does not receive sufficient respect or does not receive any respect at all around the world, compared to 39% who believe that it receives respect.
The survey revealed that at least half of adults in 20 of the 24 countries surveyed hold negative views of Israel. This percentage rises to 75% or more in eight countries: Australia, Greece, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
In contrast, attitudes are similar in India, where 34% of adults expressed positive opinions towards Israel, compared to 29% who held negative opinions. In Kenya and Nigeria, at least half of adults have positive attitudes toward Israel.
The results of the survey indicate an increase in negative attitudes towards Israel in a number of countries in recent years. In the United States, the percentage of adults who hold negative views of Israel rose by 11 percentage points between March 2022 and March 2025, according to previous polls conducted by the Pew Research Center.
Comparison with the results of 2013 polls also showed a noticeable increase in the percentage of negative opinions towards Israel in seven out of ten countries included in the comparison. In the United Kingdom, for example, the percentage rose from 44% in 2013 to 61% in the latest poll.
