Mahmoud Naguib, a consultant in neurology and cerebral catheterization at the Egyptian University of Assiut, revealed a rare medical case for a patient who came to his clinic complaining of lack of balance and involuntary movements in one of his hands, before tests showed the presence of a bullet lodged inside his brain without him being aware of it.
Najib explained, through his accounts on social media, yesterday evening, Tuesday, that the patient referred to him because he was suffering from a disturbance in balance and the appearance of involuntary movements in his hand, without a clear explanation for these symptoms or prior knowledge of their cause.
The mysterious nature of the condition prompted the doctor to request a series of medical tests, including an EEG and a CT scan, with the aim of determining the underlying cause of the symptoms that the patient is suffering from.
The results of the CT scan showed a remarkable surprise, as it revealed the presence of a bullet lodged inside the patient’s brain, even though he did not know about its existence before.
While this discovery raised several questions about how the bullet reached the brain, and the period during which it remained stable, in addition to the possibility of its connection to the neurological symptoms that appeared in the patient.
After the story circulated, Najib deleted the post in which he discussed the details of the case, and published a letter of apology in which he stressed that his goal was not to achieve spread or stir up controversy, but rather to share a remarkable medical case.
He said: “I apologize to all of you, it was never for the purpose of trending, and the pictures were removed out of concern for the privacy and psychology of the patient and his companions.”
He also added that a number of neurosurgery professors informed him that they had previously dealt with similar cases, calling on the media and journalists not to disturb the patient or his companions out of respect for their privacy.
There is no confirmed information yet about how the patient was injured or when the bullet entered his brain, nor have any additional details been announced about the developments in his health condition or the treatment plan that was decided to be followed.
