Later, Lionel Messi posted on his Instagram account pictures from his last international appearance, commenting: "The match against Benin was my last match, and I already miss wearing the blue and white colors." He added: "I still have a lot to say; it is impossible for me to express everything I feel in just a few words or a single post."
He continued: "This journey would have been impossible without my family, who have always been by my side and supported me, especially during the toughest moments when I needed them the most." Messi added: "My friends, all my teammates, and my manager played a crucial role, as well as the coaching staff; I do not want to forget Diego Maradona, who put our country in the place it deserves..."
He concluded: "I thank my previous clubs for their constant respect for my feelings and for allowing me to dedicate myself to my country when it was time to wear the national team jersey." Ronaldo commented on Messi's post, saying: "Leo, many years spent defending your country, a story that will last forever, all my respect for what you have achieved with Argentina, with sincere greetings."
Cristiano faced Lionel Messi face-to-face in more than 35 matches with club teams and national teams, and they exchanged the spotlight in the world of football over the past years by achieving individual and collective accomplishments. It is worth noting that the Inter Miami star also received farewell messages from Luis Suarez, Neymar da Silva, Ronaldinho, and Javier Zanetti.
