Iranian Interior Minister Iskandar Moameni said today, Tuesday, that he carried a message from President Masoud Bezhakian to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, noting that the Emir of Qatar raised opinions and proposals during their meeting that he would convey to the Iranian president.
Moameni described his discussions with the Emir of Qatar as "good and constructive," at a time when Qatari diplomatic efforts continue to reduce tensions in the region and promote communications between Iran and the United States.
The Qatari Amiri Diwan announced that Sheikh Tamim received Moameni in Doha, where the meeting reviewed the developments in the region and the efforts aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing regional and international security and stability.
In this context, Ibrahim Al Hashimi, Director of the Media and Communication Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that communications with Iran are "ongoing and have not been interrupted," explaining that the ongoing visits aim at achieving progress that can be built upon.
Al-Hashimi stated in a press briefing that talks between the United States and Iran are ongoing, as well as the exchange of messages between the various parties through Qatar and its regional partners.
Efforts to resume negotiations between Washington and Tehran have not made progress so far, amid continued exchanges of threats, despite both sides agreeing to a ceasefire last April, signing a memorandum of understanding in June, and holding indirect talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September.
Qatar plays a mediating role in the ongoing war in the Middle East, while the visit of the Iranian Interior Minister to Doha comes amid regional efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent the widening of the confrontation.
