The Syrian Ministry of Finance confirmed that it will not impose any new taxes or fees on commercial and service sectors and professions, noting that the decisions circulating on social media platforms concern local entities and are not linked to their tax policies.
The Ministry said, in a statement today, Sunday, that the information circulated by some social media platforms about the Ministry of Finance imposing new taxes or fees on commercial and service sectors and professions is inaccurate, noting that Resolution No. 57 issued on September 27, 2026 belongs to the Executive Office of the Azaz City Council in Aleppo, and relates to licensing professions and administrative fees associated with practicing the profession, and is not linked to the Ministry of Finance or its tax departments.
The Ministry explained that these fees fall within the annual administrative licensing and professions practice fees, which local administrative units collect to finance and develop their local services, and are not considered new taxes imposed by the Ministry of Finance or the state, according to the Syrian News Agency, SANA.
The Ministry confirmed that it did not impose any new tax or fee, as the state’s tax policy is subject to central laws and decrees, and executive offices or local councils do not have the authority to impose new taxes.
The Ministry indicated that the new tax system, which it is preparing to implement at the beginning of next year, provides facilities and incentives to the business sector to stimulate the economy, and significantly reduces the burdens on people with limited income, in accordance with the principles of simplification, justice, and tax neutrality, and with low tax rates that are considered the lowest in the region.
The Ministry affirmed its keenness to reduce tax burdens, combat corruption, and enhance tax compliance, based on its keenness to establish transparency and enhance partnership with the business sector and society.
