- The Argentine star Lionel Messi joined the training camp of his national team on Sunday ahead of his farewell match with the "Tango." The Argentine national team shared video clips of Messi's arrival, showing him wearing an olive green jacket, a light beige shirt, dark gray pants, and white shoes, along with glasses.
A farewell ceremony for Lionel Messi is scheduled to take place at the "Monumental" stadium, which has a capacity of nearly 84,000 spectators, on October 6. During this event, the "Tango" will play against the Benin national team. The 39-year-old decided to hang up his international boots on August 31, describing the decision as "painful."
At that time, the Inter Miami star said: "After some time since the final match (of the World Cup), and after thinking about it a lot, I would like to announce to everyone that I will retire from playing with the national team." He continued: "It was a painful decision, and it still hurts me deeply, but I understand that the time has come. I swear to you that I have always given my best, not only in the last few years when we won everything, but also before that."
He added: "I have always fought and left everything on the field for this jersey, to bring you happiness and make you feel proud to be Argentine through football." Messi has played 207 international matches, scoring 125 goals and providing 68 assists, and he won the 2022 World Cup title in Qatar with his national team.
