- US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had restored Ukraine's access to a military-use version of the Starlink Internet service, without clarifying whether he personally requested this. “Whether I call or someone else calls, it makes no difference,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
What ultimately matters is that he restored service.” Restoring Ukraine's access to Starlink came after days of questions about who initially ordered the service cut off, something Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said hampered his country's war effort against Russia.
Trump and some of his senior officials denied making any contact to restrict Ukraine's use of the service, without providing a clear explanation of what actually happened. Musk also denied taking any action on his part unilaterally.
Earlier this week, Trump announced that he was not involved in the matter. On Thursday, Trump refused to answer questions related to a report published by the Wall Street Journal stating that he personally asked Musk to restore service to Ukraine, and said: “I do not want to comment in either direction, but my relationship with Elon is very good,” as he put it.
