On Friday, US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of carrying out a new military operation against Iran, in the event that an agreement was not reached with it, stressing that Washington would deal with the Cuban issue after completing the deal with Iran.
Trump said, in statements reported by Reuters, that the United States may carry out another military operation against Iran, in the latest American warning to Tehran amid continuing tension between the two countries.
He added, in statements circulated by American media, that Washington may carry out another operation similar to Operation Epic Fury, or that Iran may agree to negotiate.
He continued, "If they were smart, they would simply say: Let's get to the heart of the matter," before expressing his doubts about Tehran taking this step.
In another statement, the US President said: “We will deal with Cuba after we finish with Iran,” without clarifying the nature of the measures that his administration intends to take towards Havana.
Trump's statements come at a time when talk is increasing about the possibility of resuming US military operations against Iran, coinciding with continuing disagreements over the Iranian nuclear program.
The Atlantic magazine had quoted American officials as saying that Trump is considering launching new strikes against Iran after the midterm congressional elections, scheduled for November 3.
According to the report, the potential operation may last several days, targeting nuclear facilities, missile and drone storage, in addition to energy infrastructure.
However, the published information did not confirm that a final decision had been made to carry out these strikes.
Trump's statements reflect the continuation of the military option in addition to negotiation, without the US President announcing a specific date for a new operation or details regarding the terms of the agreement he is demanding.
On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Iran informed mediators that it may expand the scope of its attacks if it is exposed to new American strikes.
The newspaper also quoted officials that Iran has resumed production of missiles and drones in underground facilities, and that it still maintains stocks of these weapons.
These developments raise fears of the expansion of the scope of any new military confrontation, in light of the continued exchange of threats between Washington and Tehran.
As for Cuba, Trump did not provide additional details about the steps that the United States might take, merely indicating that dealing with this file would come after Iran was resolved.
Between threatening a new military operation and leaving the door open for an agreement, the next American step remains undecided, while Washington continues to pressure Tehran to push it to negotiate.
