The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that border guard forces in the Fleita area west of Damascus thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons across the Syrian-Lebanese border, following a well-executed ambush.
The ministry's media and communication department stated that "the operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including two of Lebanese nationality, and the seizure of a quantity of various weapons and ammunition, which were transferred to the relevant authorities for necessary legal action against them."
Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime in late 2024, both the Lebanese and Syrian sides have been working to control smuggling across their shared border, which extends for 330 kilometers, including weapons and captagon narcotic pills.
Damascus periodically announces the seizure of weapon shipments that it claims were on their way to Lebanon for the benefit of Hezbollah, which in turn denies any connection to them and reiterates that it has no presence or activity in Syrian territory.
