Dubai, United Arab Emirates - The Hasma Desert, in the Tabuk region, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has always been characterized by unique rock formations, which entertained those looking at them as they wandered inside an open museum of mountains and sandstone rocks. Among these rock formations, a strange rock caught the attention of the Saudi photographer, Muhammad Al-Sharif, after he saw it on social networking sites.
After a whole month of continuous searching, he finally succeeded in finding her. The Saudi photographer, while speaking to the Ofoq News website in Arabic, said that the “Umm Sarhij Rock” is strange in its composition and shape.
While it has a small, slender base, you'll find that it's a massive little block measuring over 30 meters long. You can contemplate the greatness of the Creator simply by standing next to the wondrous and majestic rock, as its base is much smaller than the size of the entire rock.”
Al-Sharif considers the “Umm Sarhej Rock” to be one of the rarest rock blocks in the country, because he had never seen anything like it before. According to what the Saudi News Agency (SPA) reported on its official website, its unique formation, as previously explained by a faculty member at the College of Earth Sciences at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, Ahmed Al-Nashti, is attributed to the erosion factors that have passed through the rocky mass over the years.
As a result, the lower part of it was affected by the winds loaded with sand grains, which in such cases work to sculpt the rock blocks, and the upper parts of them remained isolated from the severe carving processes, due to the inability of the wind to carry the sand grains to heights exceeding one meter or one and a half metres. In turn, Al-Sharif was trying to convey the strange and beautiful reality of this rock to the world.
The pictures won the admiration of many people, especially since the shape of the rock was not familiar at all. Not only that, but many residents of Tabuk did not even know about its existence.
