Egyptian state television announced, on Saturday, that the House of Representatives decided to hold a plenary session, tomorrow, Sunday, in response to a request from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to authorize him in any intervention requested by Saudi Arabia to protect and defend it. The Egyptian Channel 1 said in a post on its official Facebook page: “The House of Representatives decides to hold a plenary session tomorrow, Sunday, in light of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s request.”
This came after Al-Sisi, on Saturday, called on Parliament to hold an emergency session to authorize him to carry out any intervention requested by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian President said, during his speech at a ceremony for the graduation of new batches from the Military Academy, that Egypt is ready to implement any measure requested by Saudi Arabia to defend its security and sovereignty.
Al-Sisi stressed, “We stand strongly to protect and defend the lands of our brothers in the Gulf.” Al-Sisi expressed his sincere thanks to the brothers in the Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the Emirates, for their support of Egypt following the events of 2013.
The Egyptian President had previously confirmed that Egypt and Saudi Arabia represent the heart of the Arab and Islamic nations, and that Egypt does not accept compromising the Kingdom’s security or borders.
