- Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate for the US state of Michigan, responded to statements made by Vice President J.D. Vance during his election campaign, where he described the electoral race as “a battle between those who hate the United States of America and those who love it.” “At his little campaign rally, he wanted to question my loyalty to America,” El-Sayed told a crowd in Marquette, Michigan.
Let me tell you, no one understands the depth and value of this country more than someone who was born here thanks to an accident of history that allowed this to happen.” He added, “I saw clearly what my life would have been like had I not been born in America; So don't try to give me lessons about America.
Vance and El-Sayed exchanged barbs throughout the campaign, as Republicans sought to use this progressive candidate as a "bogeyman" to intimidate voters from Democrats. Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed commented: “It seems that Donald Trump and JD Vance can’t stop mentioning my name.”
He continued: “We believe in an America that can accommodate all of us. So, don’t you dare come from Ohio to teach me lessons about America.”
You know absolutely nothing about America; You never knew her, and you never will.” At a campaign rally in Michigan in August, Vance described El-Sayed as “evil” and misleadingly tried to suggest that he was “seeking to impose Islamic law in the United States.”
On the other hand, Abdul Rahman Al-Sayed responded: “They said a lot of things, and focused on my name and my belief, saying ‘He is a Muslim. Yes, I am a Muslim, but I also realize that my first loyalty is to the constitution.’”
