Investigations are continuing in Sudan to uncover the circumstances of the shooting accident that claimed the lives of two Egyptian drivers in the capital, Khartoum, amid a state of anticipation to determine the motives of the incident and the party responsible for it.

In the first official comment, the Sudanese police described the incident as an “individual”, explaining in a statement, on Monday evening, that a Sudanese citizen fired gunshots at a group of people in the local market in the Khartoum region around two o’clock in the afternoon.

The accident resulted in the killing of two Egyptians, Ikrami Muhammad Shafiq, from the village of Taj al-Ezz, affiliated with the Tami al-Amdid center in Dakahlia Governorate, and Muhammad Lotfi al-Sayyid Shakhba (30 years old), from the New Kafr village, affiliated with the Met Salsil Center in the same governorate.

Muhammad Shafiq, Ikrami’s father, said in special statements to Al Arabiya.net/Al Hadath.net that his son worked as a driver and visited Sudan constantly due to the nature of his work, indicating that the family did not expect one of his trips to end in such a tragedy.

He also added that the family was surprised by the news of his death through posts circulated on Facebook, which caused a great shock to the family, especially since they were in constant contact with him and constantly followed his news during his stay in Sudan.

The father also explained that his son left behind two children, stressing that the family has been experiencing a state of deep sadness since receiving the news of his death, and that his loss was a great pain for all family members.

While he called for quickly completing the necessary procedures to transport his son’s body to Egypt so that the family can bury him and bid him farewell, stressing that the delay in the return of the body increases the suffering of the family awaiting his burial in his hometown.

For his part, Mr. Ahmed, a relative of Muhammad Lutfi Al-Sayed Shakhba, the second victim in the accident, said that the family received news of his death through social media, which put its members into a state of shock and sadness.

He added to Al-Arabiya.net/Al-Hadath.net that Muhammad was in constant contact with his family and did not express any concerns about his stay in Sudan, especially since he had previously traveled there more than once in the framework of his work.

The victim's relative also indicated that the family was following news about him normally before they were surprised by the news of his killing being circulated on social media platforms, considering that receiving the news in this way increased the severity of the shock.

He also confirmed that the family is awaiting the results of the investigations to find out more details about the incident, and hopes that the procedures for returning the body to Egypt will be quickly completed, so that they can bid farewell and bury him in his hometown, in light of the state of sadness they have been experiencing since receiving the news of his death.
