US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the United States is holding constructive talks with Iran, adding, "We will not attack it before the midterm elections."
Trump said in statements to reporters before leaving Washington for Florida: “We accomplished a very good job in Iran.”
But he added, “We can end the matter very quickly with Tehran,” adding: “The question is: Do we want to resolve the matter or let it wither gradually?”
He continued that the United States will keep Iran in a state of "total paralysis," stressing that Washington is capable of controlling the country and seizing its oil.
These statements came at a time when US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed threats to launch a new attack on Iran after the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3.
Meanwhile, US envoy Tom Barrack warned that a US strike against Iran might occur over the weekend. In response to a question during a podcast today, Friday, about the possibility of an attack this week against Iran, the US President’s special envoy to Syria and Iraq responded, “Absolutely.”
He also added that Trump was very clear in his position, and repeatedly paved the way for reaching an agreement, but Tehran took the Strait of Hormuz as a bargaining chip.
On the other hand, Tehran threatened to expand its responses if it was subjected to a new attack, to affect various targets. It also hinted at targeting Internet cables at sea.
