Al-Azhar calls for the formation of an urgent committee of wise men to stop conflicts in the region

Al-Azhar Al-Sharif called for the formation of an urgent mediation committee that includes an elite of rational and sincere wise men from various Arab and Islamic countries, who call for peace and stability, while granting it the authority to intervene to stop conflicts in the region.

In a statement on Sunday evening, Al-Azhar called on the committee to move quickly, once it is formed, to defuse the crises and conflicts raging in a number of hotspots of tension in the region, bring the views of the conflicting parties closer together, and end the outstanding differences between the people of one nation.

Al-Azhar also called on the committee to work to preserve the power and sovereignty of the Arabs, preserve the blood of their children, and protect the capabilities of the peoples and future generations from the consequences of comprehensive collapse.

Al-Azhar affirmed its full readiness to make the utmost efforts to support the committee’s progress, expressing its full confidence in the wisdom of all concerned parties and their ability to overcome differences and turn the page on the past, in order to spare bloodshed and give priority to the higher interest of the Arab peoples.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, sent an urgent appeal to all Arab and Islamic countries, in which he called for the spirit of brotherhood and the ties of religion, blood and language to prevail, to raise the voice of wisdom and reason, and to resort to dialogue instead of conflicts that threaten the stability of the nations.

In posts on the “X” platform, the Sheikh of Al-Azhar called for an immediate and comprehensive cessation of all acts of war, fighting, destruction and sabotage, which drain the capabilities of peoples and take the lives of innocent people.

Al-Azhar warned that the ongoing state of division and rivalry constitutes the main reason behind the nation’s weakness, the violation of its sanctities, and the dissipation of its economic and human achievements and wealth.

Al-Azhar’s call comes at a very sensitive time, in light of the conflicts the region is witnessing that have led to the depletion of lives and economic capabilities, as well as threatening the stability and collective security of countries.

The Al-Azhar initiative aims to stop the raging crises in the region, most notably the bloodshed and destruction in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, and the internal armed fighting that is tearing Sudan apart and depleting its capabilities.

The initiative also includes tensions and escalation in Lebanon and Syria, in addition to the ongoing conflicts and divisions in Yemen.
