Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner evoke Rome's fashion archives

- American reality TV star Kim Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner, recalled moments in fashion history on the red carpet at the Rome Film Festival, on Saturday, October 24, during the premiere of the second season of the series All’s Fair. Between an archival leopard-print dress and a velvet robe associated with the late American-British actress Elizabeth Taylor, old designs were strongly present, along with other choices characterized by geometric cuts and shiny details.

Kardashian chose a dress from the fall and winter 1986-1987 haute couture collection from the French house Yves Saint Laurent, which was designed for her by American fashion expert Lou Roach. The design came in a leopard print, with a heart-shaped bodice and a corset with criss-crossing details, while the skirt took a narrow mermaid cut that gradually widened towards the hem.

The heroine of the work was not satisfied with the animal print on the dress, but she added a transparent black scarf bearing a drawing of a tiger, and placed it on her head and shoulders in different ways in front of the photographers’ lenses, with black pointed-toe shoes. Kris Jenner regains Elizabeth Taylor's look. As for Jenner, she appeared in a long black velvet robe from the Italian house "Tizani Roma", featuring a hood and shiny embroideries in the shape of two scorpions, with an ivory silk lining.

She coordinated it with a long white dress, white gloves, and diamond jewelry. The design is linked to an outfit worn by Elizabeth Taylor in November 1969, during the celebration of Princess Grace Kelly's 40th birthday in Monaco, an occasion known as the "Scorpio Party", in reference to the Princess's astrological sign.

Kardashian wore her mother's dress in the series, and the dress was sold at an auction at Christie's in 2011 for $74,500. Kardashian revealed through her official Instagram account that her mother owns the piece, and that she borrowed it from her to film the second season of the series, after she told American director Ryan Murphy her story, which prompted him to write a new episode in order to show the dress at work.

On the other hand, British actress Naomi Watts went for a design more based on shape and structure, as she chose a black and white dress from the spring and summer 2027 collection of the British-Serbian house “Roxanda”. The dress came in an off-the-shoulder cut, with a figure-defining top and a wide, architectural skirt, decorated with irregular white shapes on a black background.

American actress Sarah Paulson chose a white dress specially designed for her by the Italian house Miu Miu. It featured an off-the-shoulder cut and shiny dangling details that added movement to the design. As for American actress Niecy Nash, she wore a dress specially designed for her by the Nigerian house “House of Murphy.” It combined black and white with a white top and a fringe-decorated edge, with a black mermaid-cut skirt and a long train.
