Why is burgundy red hair sweeping social networking sites?

Pictures and videos of red “burgundy” hair have flooded social networking sites, turning its dark and rich shades into one of the most prominent hair color trends in the recent period. Despite its return to the forefront, “burgundy” is not a new color in the world of hair, but its presence is renewed from time to time in different shades and techniques.

It is distinguished from red and copper by its color combination that combines red and wine, with sometimes touches of violet. Lebanese hairdresser Rita Tamer, in an interview with the Ofoq News website in Arabic, explains that the demand for it is linked to the tendency towards rich and deep colors that give the hair a luxurious appearance and shine without exaggeration, noting that red is usually bolder and clearer, while copper tends to warm and golden tones, while “burgundy” is characterized by a mixture of red, wine and violet.

Burgundy is not limited to one shade, as its options vary between dark red, violet, dark burgundy or wine. Tamer points out that shades of cherry burgundy and dark burgundy red, in addition to dark brownish burgundy, are among the options that are in high demand this season.

The principles of the correct choice Choosing the appropriate shade is not related to the trend alone, but rather requires taking into account the color of the skin, eyes, the nature of the hair, and its basic color, as well as the woman’s style and personality. Tamer points out that this color can suit different skin tones, provided that the appropriate shade is chosen. Dark burgundy shades with soft violet reflections may suit fair skin, while warm cherry and burgundy shades go well with wheat and medium skin, while deep and rich shades highlight dark skin.

At the level of color application, the transition to “burgundy” is usually easier on brown hair, especially medium and light, as clear reflections can be obtained without always having to lighten the hair. As for black or very dark hair, it may require careful lightening if the desire is to obtain a clearer and stronger color.

In this context, Tamer stresses the importance of maintaining hair health, explaining that she prefers to avoid pulling the color unless necessary, and to achieve the desired result in stages rather than subjecting the hair to a harsh process. As for how to use it, “burgundy” can be applied to the entire hair to obtain a rich, uniform color, or it can be introduced through soft strands and the “balyage” technique to add dimension and movement to the hair. It is best to combine it with a dark brown base, because this gives the result a natural and elegant appearance, especially for women who want to change their hair color without adopting a bold shade over the entire hair.

The haircut and hairstyle also play a role in highlighting the reflections and shades of burgundy. Long hair with soft layers allows for the movement of color to appear, while a wavy hairstyle helps to highlight its different shades, while Tamer finds that a long “bob” cut gives this color a modern and elegant character.

Precise care steps, but maintaining the vitality of “burgundy” is no less important than choosing the appropriate shade, especially since colors that contain red pigments may lose part of their intensity with repeated washing. The Lebanese hairdresser advises using a shampoo designed for dyed hair, avoiding hot water and frequent washing as much as possible, in addition to applying moisturizing masks regularly, and protecting the hair from the heat of styling tools. She suggests conducting special sessions or renewing the reflections in the salon between dye appointments to maintain its shine without the need to completely re-dye the hair.

As for the future of this trend, Tamer expects its continued presence, in different shades that change from one season to another, between dark, cherry, and red-brown. She believes that the shades of chocolate brown and espresso brown, in addition to the cherry color known as “cola” and the calm copper color, may compete during the coming period.
