On Monday, the Iraqi authorities revealed that they had carried out intelligence operations with 7 Arab and regional countries, including Egypt, Libya and Iran, which resulted in the seizure of 9 tons of narcotic substances outside Iraq. The Director General of the Iraqi Drug Affairs Directorate, Lieutenant General Ahmed Saleh Al-Zarkani, said in a statement that joint intelligence operations to combat drugs were carried out in 7 Arab and regional countries, which resulted in the seizure of about 9 tons of narcotic substances. He also announced a qualitative operation in Libya that ended with the seizure of 1,200,000 narcotic pills.
Al-Zarkani said, "Iraq has become one of the first Arab countries to implement qualitative operations to combat drugs outside its borders, in coordination with the competent agencies in brotherly and friendly countries," according to the Iraqi "I'a" news agency. Ahmed Saleh Al-Zarkani added, "The joint operations included Kuwait, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Libya, and relied on accurate intelligence information provided by the Iraqi services, which contributed to tracking international smuggling networks and seizing large quantities of narcotic substances."
Saleh Al-Zarkani explained that "the most recent foreign operations were carried out in Libya, based entirely on Iraqi intelligence monitoring, and resulted in the seizure of one million and 200 thousand narcotic pills belonging to a criminal network active from Chad," according to the "I'a" agency. The Iraqi official continued, "The total narcotic substances seized outside Iraqi territory, based on the directorate's information and coordination with the security services in the concerned countries, amounted to about 9 tons, including Captagon, crystal, and hashish. 20 kilograms of marijuana were also seized in one of the neighboring countries," according to the "I'a" agency.
